  1. Thank you Michael Cutler for this presentation and your law enforcement service. 10 years ago a retired Master Sergeant’s wife was T-Boned on her Harley and killed by a drunk Mexican illegal immigrant. No license, no insurance, and no registration or title. Another man, a pillar of the community in a small town outside of Tulsa, OK, was dropping his daughter off for Ballet lessons in Tulsa on a Saturday morning. After the drop off, the man was hit by a same as the above. Both aliens bailed out and disappeared.

Last week, in Oklahoma City, a 45 year old man with a Latino name, was shot multiple times in his home and killed. Shot once in the head was his 14 year old son who died the next day. It obviously was a murder with a message.

Last week we saw violence outside and after a Trump rally in San Jose, CA. “Protesters” waving Mexican flags and yelling that California should be under governance of Mexico again. What for? Color of skin and language? Do they want to be like Mexico in terms of government and corruption? Because the USA “stole” it from Mexico? As I recall, Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821. Then only 15 years later, Texas became independent of Mexico in 1836. Then the war in 1848, only 27 years later, where Mexico was forced to cede the SW territories and California to the US. Some “heritage” with regard to their “claims” on US territory now.

Lastly, I helped start up the command that was supposed to provide military support to law enforcement in the four Border States which were labeled High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTAs). During that time I asked a California official headquartered in Sacramento why the State government was reluctant to support US Border Patrol efforts. His reply? “There are 4 to 5 million Latino voters in Southern California. We cannot allow the Governor to be seen as supporting “La Migra” [i.e. the Border Patrol]. We’ll support the US Customs, but we can’t be seen supporting the Border Patrol.” That statement was made in 1990 and the then first-term Governor was a Republican.

  2. Mr. Cutler did not address the fact that there is one simple way to eliminate the violence associated with the trade in cocaine and heroin: eliminate the enormous profits by making them legal for adults.

I think a free market solution should be considered. Part of a free market solution is that you take the consequences of your actions: don’t expect me to foot the bill to pick up the pieces of your life if you are damaged from drug use. And oh yes, if you do not dispose of your hypodermic needles properly, society has a place for you: jail.

Finally, I think Mr. Cutler overstates the violent tendencies of heroin and cocaine. Mr. Cutler presumably is more knowledgeable than I am on the subject, but my impression is that heroin and cocaine users are not notably inclined toward violence (that does not apply to crack users, though).
