  1. Very powerful and wise commnets.
Because it is Passover, I have been studying the passover story.
the downfall of the Egyptians was also about the deception f the ruler who thought himself all powerful and his denial of the value of life over self aggrandizement and Egyptian nationalist glory.

He too used deceit and propaganda to tuen the population against the Jews.

Most people don’t realize that the overarching story here is one of ideological battle…

    1. I have been saying the same thing. I don’t want people to die, but our children, who, thank God, seem to be immune to COVID 19, must have a future. I am a nurse. I have children. I go into the hospital every week to help fight this war. My life, as always, is in God’s hands. Instead of repeating the illogical phrase, “saving one life is as saving the world,” be strengthened by the words of Jesus, “Greater love hath no man than that he would lay down his life for his friends.” Atheism is cold comfort. There is no solace in “knowing” your one and only life will be churned back into the planetary compost heap by the metabolic processes of microbes and worms. On the other hand, I have the blessed assurance that a great reunion and celebration awaits me and all those who love Jesus. We will be together in eternity. The strength of our best young people has been spent fighting in the Middle East, commanded by a government which cannot be trusted. They hav made the ultimate sacrifice, trusting it was the right thing. We can do no less now.

  2. The Tikva Fund has presented this outstanding series of lectures on this subject:
    New 8-Part Audio Course
    The Haggadah: A Political Classic
with Rabbi Dr. Meir Soloveichik

The most widely read, beloved, and perplexing book of the Jewish tradition is the Passover Haggadah. It is also a serious work of Jewish political philosophy. This Passover, we bring you a free audio course from Rabbi Meir Soloveichik, exploring the social, civic, and political teachings of the Haggadah. He will show how every prayer, passage, symbol, and song aims to describe and preserve the Jewish understanding of the good society, and why the festival of freedom is so central to understanding what Judaism stands for in every generation. You’ll hear lectures on:
    • The DNA of the Haggadah: Politics and Theology
    • Children and Continuity
    • The Politics of Time
    • Law and Liberty
    • The Meaning of Matzah: Positive Freedom and Negative Freedom
    • The Politics of the Paschal Lamb
    • Rabbi Akiva’s Blessing: Destruction, Freedom, and Endurance
    • Elijah’s Cup: Reflections on Athens and Jerusalem

This series is well worth the effort:

  3. This presentation by Lurie is a powerful case for what is wrong with the U.S. today. As a Christian I made the decision in 1993 to travel to Guatemala on mission work for my church, despite the fact that the country was still in a civil war. I knew that there were many risks involved but felt that this was an important thing to do as a Christian: helping Mayans in great need. Yes, my life was on the line but my commitment to Christ was very important.
As Lurie points out, an increasingly smaller percentage of our population have a belief in the goodness of God and his caring for us, and are, instead, just looking out for themselves. I am becoming increasingly frustrated by these doctors around the U.S. telling us we have to totally shut down the economy to “save” the country so fewer will suffer or die. I am praying that Trump makes the call to stop this total shutdown at the end of April and get on with life. If my life is ended because of this, then that is the way it has to be. My friends in Guatemala are suffering and we can’t even get them resources to help. Totally sad situation. Jamie, this talk is one of the best I have ever heard on your website.
