  1. Brave young woman. Lovely and smart. Islam is a vicious, horrifying death cult! hope she sees the light of Christianity!

    1. I share your sense of puzzlement that Shireen remains true, in her fashion, to Islam. I think the very term “Muslim free thinker” is an oxymoron. How, I wonder, can someone who values freedom adhere to an ideology whose founder urged the faithful to murder apostates? I suspect that speaks to the difficulty of leaving the cultural milieu in which one was raised and to which one is bound by family ties.

I won’t go so far as to try to attract people like Shireen to a specific religious expression, but I would like to foster her sense of skepticism and rational inquiry. As such, I hereby offer her a one year subscription to the excellent bi-monthly magazine “Free Inquiry”, published by the Center for Inquiry. Should she accept the offer, I would ask for the good offices of Jamie Glazov to effect the transaction.

  2. I share Jamie’s appreciation of Shireen Qudosi for being the person she is and especially support his expressed wish that she appear again on the Glazov Gang. It is perhaps more a measure of my own provinciality than anything else that when I hear people like Shireen, who hail from an Islamic background, I feel a sense of surprise while experiencing a frisson of optimism that runs counter to my prevailing philosophical pessimism about the future of humanity.

One thing Shireen said that particularly drew my attention was the sense of wrongness she experienced as a little girl of four or five in Pakistan. For some people, there is an “Aha”
moment. Whittaker Chambers, in his magnificent autobiography, “Witness”, described experiencing it when walking on Fifth Avenue in New York with his Russian handler. Struggling to communicate in a common language, German, Chambers tried to describe the notion of “window shoppers”. His handler abruptly cut him off, saying, “No! United States Secret Police.” Now Chambers knew people looking in the windows of shops along Fifth Ave were not the secret police- gee what else did this guy have wrong? Or Viktor Bilenko, who piloted a Mig fighter from the Worker’s Paradise to Japan in his personal bid from freedom, found his faith in communism brought into question when he learned that members of CPUSA faced discrimination in the USA (for example, they could not teach in government schools). Oh …. t hey have a Communist Party in the USA? Golly, that would be like having a Capitalist Party in the Soviet Union! Dangerous line of thinking, a process that seems to me to be notably absent on the part of believing Moslems.

But, I gather, Shireen had no “Aha” moment: she was always a bit out of place in strict Moslem orthodoxy. Similarly, Anni Cyrus has claimed that she never accepted the indoctrination provided by her Moslem upbringing and heritage, even though at some points in her life she had to “go along to get along”. What is it that distinguishes the Shireen Qudosi’s and Anni Cyrus’ from, say, the Linda Sarsours, who speak so glowing about sharia or the fraudulent “Mendacious, Grievance-Mongering Taqiyya-Artist-in Chief”, Fiyaz Mughal? Whatever the essential differences are, I think they transcend beliefs- how systematic and critical can the belief system of a five year old be, even if she was above average :~)? Are the qualities that make for a Shireen or Anni cast in our genes, or somehow absorbed in mother’s milk? Or are they nurtured in some manner from a very young age? If so, how to foster their attitudes in the larger population? While I’ve posed these questions in various ways on different sites, I have yet to receive a truly informative response.

  3. I never realized there was an Iranian mafia behind the scenes at the Glazov Gang! Surely, though, Jamie is not including Anni Cyrus in that group- I am unwilling to grant Iran any claim to her: she’s as ‘merican as apple pie, just with a little added spice.

Anyway, hats off to the Iranian expats/immigrants who enrich these shores by enabling GG. I have a sense of regret that my own wish to deny, at this juncture of history, Moslems the ability to immigrate to the USA would likely preclude my benefiting from their collective wisdom. Surely there is a better way, but for now, that’s the best I can come up with.

  4. very impressive lady ! It was such pleasure to listen to a beautiful soul well educated free spirited and courageous lady !
Keep up the good work Shireen
